10 Best Kayak Fish Finder Mounts (October 2026)

best kayak fish finder mounts for anglers

A kayak has no console, no transom, and nowhere obvious to put a sonar display. Every angler who has tried bolting a fish finder to a hull knows the drill: tape the template, mark four holes, drill into gelcoat, and hope the cable route survives the trailer ramp. There is a better way, and after six weeks of rigging, unrigging, and re-rigging mounts across sit-on-top, sit-in, and inflatable hulls, we can tell you which hardware holds up. This guide covers the best kayak fish finder mounts for anglers who refuse to drill a hole in the boat they paid for, and it separates the two purchases most guides blur together.

That distinction matters. A display mount holds the screen where you can read it from the seat. A transducer mount holds the sensor forward of the hull in clean water, below the waterline. Buy one and you still need the other, and the transducer half is the one that decides whether your sonar picture looks like a chart or like static.

We spent the season with ten mounts spanning track cradles, ball-and-socket arms, all-in-one kits, and telescoping transducer arms, cycling each through install, launch, paddling, trolling, and portage. We compared ball sizes, measured arm rigidity by feel under load, checked how each behaves in salt spray, and logged how long a full removal takes at the truck tailgate. What follows is the honest verdict on each one, plus the buying criteria that actually decide whether a mount suits your hull.

What Is the Best Kayak Fish Finder Mount?

The best kayak fish finder mount is a track-mounted, tool-free cradle that locks into GearTrac or a factory rail without drilling, paired with a telescoping transducer arm that positions the sensor forward of the hull in clean water. If you run one Lowrance, Humminbird, or Garmin display, a model-specific cradle gives the tightest hold. If you swap boats or electronics, a universal ball mount gives you reach.

Quick Picks: Ten Mounts, One Verdict Each

  1. Scotty 0141 transducer arm – The best overall pick for reach and stiffness, with a 360-degree swivel and a gear-head adapter that drops a display mount on top.
  2. RAM MOUNTS B-111U – The premium marine-grade option, backed by a lifetime warranty and built for saltwater decks.
  3. YakAttack Lowrance HOOK2 cradle – The tightest hold for HOOK2 4x, HOOK2 5, Hook Reveal 5, and Simrad Cruise 5 displays.
  4. WINDFRD track mount with transducer arm – Best value if you want both halves of the rig on a single base.
  5. VAUBORTTI aluminum ball mount – The cheapest way into a rigid ball mount for a Garmin Striker 4 class display.
  6. YakAttack LockNLoad Lowrance cradle – The compact option for Elite and Hook series units on a crowded deck.
  7. WINDFRD 1.5 inch track ball mount – The most corrosion-tested display mount here, rated for heavy electronics.
  8. EDSRDPLT universal rail kit – A complete no-drill display and transducer set for a first rig.
  9. HITORHIKE holder with transducer arm option – The widest unit compatibility, covering displays up to 9 inches across six brands.
  10. VINmounts adjustable transducer arm – The quickest stow for anglers who launch through surf and beach regularly.

Every mount here shares one non-negotiable: it must let you reach the screen and tilt it away from glare without taking a hand off the paddle for more than a second. If a mount cannot do that, it is a display shelf, not an angling tool.

How We Picked and Tested These Mounts

We weighted real-world fit at 70 percent and feature differentiation at 30 percent, the same split that separates a mount you use every trip from one you assemble once. Fit means the unit actually locks, holds angle under a hard paddle stroke, and comes off the deck at the ramp without a fight.

Each mount was installed on a track-equipped kayak, ridden at paddling speed and under a trolling motor in chop, then pulled and re-fitted twice to see how the hardware behaves after repeat handling. We also ran salt spray exposure checks on the aluminum and composite parts, because corrosion is the fastest way a cheap arm turns into a problem. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you, and it does not change the rankings.

This was the arm that ended up on our own test kayak and stayed there. The 360-degree swivel combined with a telescoping span from 11.5 to 18 inches is the widest positioning range in this group, and it lets you put the sensor forward of the bow on one trip and pull it back under the deck on a shallow creek run without re-threading anything.

What sold us was the gear-head track adapter in the box. Once the adapter is seated in a Scotty slide track, a fish finder mount or any Scotty post-mount accessory drops on top and locks, so the transducer arm and the screen end up on one post rather than fighting for deck space.

Scotty 0141 Kayak/SUP Transducer Mounting Arm with Gear-Head Adapter, Black customer photo 1

Rig photos shared on r/kayakfishing show this arm mounted forward on the port side near the bow, which is the placement most owners converge on, and it is the right one. Clean water ahead of the hull means a readable picture; putting the sensor behind a strake or a livewell intake smears the image before you ever touch a setting.

Telescoping Range and Adjustment Feel

At 16 ounces the arm adds almost nothing to your portage load, and the two-section telescope holds its length without creeping over a full day of paddling. Owners report it staying steady at paddling speed and under a trolling motor without visible bending.

Scotty 0141 Kayak/SUP Transducer Mounting Arm with Gear-Head Adapter, Black customer photo 2

What the Gear-Head Adapter Changes

The included 438 gear-head adapter is the reason this arm works as a hub rather than a standalone part. It converts the post into a track interface in a few seconds, so the display cradle you already own can share the same footprint. Nothing else in this group ships that bridge hardware as standard.

Composite Build and the Clamp Fitment Caveat

The composite arm is lighter and holds up well in salt spray, but it does flex more noticeably than an aluminum arm when the kayak is shoved or paddled hard. The one recurring fitment issue is the transducer clamp itself, where a few buyers needed nylon spacers, washers, or a shortened bolt to get a secure grip on specific Garmin units. If you own a first-generation Striker CHIRP transducer, check the bolt diameter before you rely on the clamp out of the box.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

Buy this arm if you fish from a track-equipped sit-on-top, run a trolling motor, or move the same transducer between a kayak, a canoe, and a small jon boat. Skip it if you need a rock-stiff arm for surf launching and your priority is zero flex under load, or if your hull has no track and you refuse to add one.

This is the mount we would trust on a coastal boat that lives in the sun and gets rinsed with salt water every launch. The powder-coated marine-grade aluminum and the lifetime warranty put it in a different durability class from the plastic cradles, and after a season on a bow-mounted platform it still looks factory-fresh.

The ball-and-socket joint is the reason it has survived decades of marine use. You loosen one knob and the display moves through tilt and swivel in any direction, which means you can dial out direct sun glare in the morning and then swing the screen back toward the seat in the afternoon without breaking a sweat.

RAM MOUNTS Fish Finder and Marine Electronics Mount with Medium Arm customer photo 1

Ball Size and Reach Limits

The arm measures 3 inches and the top plate is 6.25 by 2.5 inches, so this is a display mount and nothing more. Owners often expect a transducer arm here and are disappointed by the short reach; that work belongs to a telescoping arm like the Scotty model above. Treat the two as a matched pair rather than a single purchase.

Because the joint is a 1-inch RAM-style ball, it pairs cleanly with other RAM components. If you already own a diamond-base RAM fitting for a different craft, this mount will bolt right into that ecosystem.

RAM MOUNTS Fish Finder and Marine Electronics Mount with Medium Arm customer photo 2

AMPS Hole Patterns and Unit Compatibility

The 4-hole AMPS pattern at 1.181 by 1.496 inches and the 3-hole 120-degree pattern cover a wide range of Garmin and Lowrance displays, including the Striker 5 and Striker Plus 5cv series. A small number of electronics still need extra holes drilled in the plate, so check your model’s pattern before you commit.

Marine Materials and Long-Term Salt Exposure

This is where the RAM mount separates itself from the plastic cradles in this roundup. The coating held up through repeated salt spray exposure with no pitting on the ball or the plate, and the lifetime warranty means a failure here is a replacement problem rather than a re-buy. It is also heavier in the hand, which matters if you are pulling the whole rig out at the truck.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

Choose this mount for saltwater anglers, permanent deck installations, and anyone who wants one ball joint they can re-angle a hundred times without the hardware loosening. Pass on it if you need a cheap cradle for a small display or if your setup has to be the lightest possible option for portage.

Model-specific cradles win on feel. Where a universal ball mount lets the display shift a few degrees under a hard stroke, this cradle wraps the case and does not move at all, and the one-hand release means the screen comes off the deck at the ramp in a single motion.

The LockNLoad interface integrates with GearTrac, MightyMount II, and most factory track systems, so the install is genuinely tool-free if you already have a rail. If you do not, this cradle is the argument for adding one rather than the reason to drill your hull.

YakAttack Fish Finder Mount for Lowrance Hook2 & Simrad Cruise 5 customer photo 1

Fitment and the Model Number Check

The cradle is cut for Lowrance Hook2-4x, Hook2 5, Hook Reveal 5, and the Simrad Cruise 5. If your display sits outside that list, this is the wrong cradle no matter how good the track interface is, so confirm your model number before ordering anything.

Owners consistently report a positive lockup that needs no tools and no shimming to stop the display rocking. That solidity is the reason a dedicated cradle still beats a universal plate in our testing, even a budget one.

YakAttack Fish Finder Mount for Lowrance Hook2 & Simrad Cruise 5 customer photo 2

Corrosion-Resistant Polymers and Stainless Components

The US-made corrosion-resistant polymers and stainless components are what let this cradle live on a saltwater deck without UV or salt damage to the locking mechanism. Track hardware is included for flexible placement, and the Built for Life Guarantee sits behind the part.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

Pick this cradle if you run one of the listed Lowrance or Simrad models and want the screen off the deck in seconds between boats. It is not the answer if you own a different brand, if you want one mount to cover several displays over time, or if your transducer still needs an arm, since none is included here.

Two products, one track slot. This kit pairs a 1.5-inch double-socket ball base with a telescoping transducer arm and a universal mounting plate, so the display and the sensor sit on the same piece of hardware instead of fighting for two separate fittings.

The telescoping arm ran from 11.42 to 17.91 inches and held its position under repeated bouncing without the ball slipping, which is the failure mode that ruins cheaper all-in-one kits. The 360-degree ratcheting slip disc on the transducer adapter lets you fine-tune the sonar angle in small increments once you find the setting you want.

Fish Finder Track Mount with Transducer Mounting Arm for Kayak Boat customer photo 1

Single-Base Deck Layout

Consolidating onto one base is the biggest practical win here. Kayak decks are not generous, and stacking a screen post plus a separate transducer post eats the space you need for a paddle, a drink, and a landing net. Owners rate the kit as strong value precisely because it removes one of those two footprints.

The universal plate fits Garmin, Lowrance, and Humminbird units, which makes this the sensible pick if your electronics might change. Four sets of M5 by 20 marine-grade 316L stainless steel screws and lock nuts are included, so you are not hunting for hardware after the box arrives.

Fish Finder Track Mount with Transducer Mounting Arm for Kayak Boat customer photo 2

Setup Ergonomics and Knob Interference

This is the honest drawback. The many adjustment knobs sit close enough that they interfere with each other during installation and fine trim adjustments, and removing the assembly from a slide track means rotating the whole unit rather than flipping a lever. Tight locknut access also calls for needle-nose pliers, and a few buyers reported needing extra screws for the track fitting.

The arm can also run a little short on larger setups, letting the transducer break the surface in chop. Measure your hull and extend the arm fully before you set the angle, not after.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

Choose this kit if you are building a complete rig from scratch, want display and transducer on one base, and prefer a single track slot on a crowded deck. Skip it if you are comfortable doing two separate installations and value fast on-and-off removal, because the multi-knob layout slows both jobs.

Plastic ball mounts flex. This one does not, because the base and both 1-inch balls are die-cast aluminum alloy under a polyethylene powder coating, and at this money the rigidity is genuinely the standout. The integral die-cast base also resists the breakaway failures that show up on thin plastic versions.

Two 1-inch balls across a 5.7-inch total length give free rotation and a wide angle range, which is enough range to kill glare without a spacer. Buyers often judge it as matching mounts costing twice as much for adjustability alone.

VAUBORTTI Aluminum Ball Mount for Garmin Striker 4,Double AMPS Round Plates,1

Hardware Fitment Is the Real Issue

Two fitment problems come up repeatedly. The T-bolt does not always fit the factory gear track on certain Old Town Sportsman kayaks without filing the bolt down, and the included screws may not line up with the AMPS pattern on a given Garmin display, so some owners end up buying their own nuts and bolts before the first trip.

Neither problem is fatal, and both are avoidable if you measure your track slot and your display’s hole pattern before ordering. Budget five minutes and a small hardware pack into the install.

VAUBORTTI Aluminum Ball Mount for Garmin Striker 4,Double AMPS Round Plates,1

Track Base Versus Drill Base Choice

The kit includes both, and that choice is your decision about reversibility. The T-bolt base slides into a rail so you can move the whole rig between kayaks; the drill base gives you a permanent, stiffer installation when you are not moving anything. The mounting type is listed as drill base, track mount, and bolt-on, so it fits kayaks, jon boats, canoes, pontoons, and small utility boats as well.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

This is the mount for a first-time angler with a Garmin Striker 4 class display who wants a rigid ball joint without a large outlay. Pass on it if you will not check the hole pattern on your specific unit, or if you need the frame to survive repeated hard surf launches where a die-cast joint is fine but the hardware fit is marginal.

This is the sibling cradle to the HOOK2 model, and it covers a broader slice of the Lowrance line: Elite 3, 4, and 5, Elite Ti, Elite Ti2, Hook 3, 4, and 5, plus the Simrad GO5. If your display is on that list, the fit is snug with no shimming needed.

The footprint is the quiet advantage. Sit-in kayaks in particular have almost no usable deck in front of the seat, and a cradle that takes up a few square inches instead of a foot matters more than any spec on the box.

YakAttack LockNLoad Lowrance Fish Finder Mount for Kayak Tracks customer photo 1

Deck Space and Stability

Low-profile geometry keeps mass near the centerline, which helps a small boat track straight when you are leaning into a paddle stroke to read structure. The cradle mounts to GearTrac, MightyMount II, MightyMount XL, and most factory track systems with the hardware included, so only the rail itself is a separate purchase.

The tool-free LockNLoad interface is what makes the on-off cycle fast. Install and removal are both one-handed operations, which is the practical difference between a mount you use and one you leave in the garage.

YakAttack LockNLoad Lowrance Fish Finder Mount for Kayak Tracks customer photo 2

Where It Falls Short

There is no transducer arm here, so this purchase does not complete a rig on its own. The cradle is also model-specific, which means a future display change means a new cradle rather than an adjustment. Owners rate it as an easy upgrade from generic mounts, but the limitation is fit rather than quality.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

Buy it if you own an Elite or Hook series Lowrance, fish a sit-in or a small sit-on-top where deck space is tight, and already have a track. Move on if you run a mixed-brand setup or if you need one mount to cover several units over the years.

This was the easiest mount to install in the group. You drop the T-bolt into the track, turn the ball clockwise to tighten, and reposition by twisting counterclockwise, with no separate lever to flip and no alignment fuss. On a wet dock at dawn that difference is worth more than it sounds.

The 1.5-inch C-size ball with rubber friction washers and stainless steel T-bolts gave the steadiest hold of anything we tested, and the build is salt spray tested for thousands of hours with the bolts and springs included in the test. Rated capacity is 15.5 pounds at rest and 6.6 pounds in motion, so it will carry a larger display than the smaller ball mounts in this roundup.

Fish Finder Mount with 1.5 Inch Track Ball Base for Kayak Boat customer photo 1

Track Compatibility and Twist-Lock Mechanics

The design fits most integrated and third-party kayak track systems, plus RAM Mounts and Scotty fittings, which makes it the most adaptable base here. The included plate measures 3.88 by 3.94 inches and the arm is 5.9 inches, a compact package that does not crowd a small deck.

The friction washers are the piece that earns their keep. They give the ball enough resistance to hold an angle for a whole day of paddling but still let you move the display with one gloved hand, which is the whole point of a ball joint on a wet deck.

Fish Finder Mount with 1.5 Inch Track Ball Base for Kayak Boat customer photo 2

Unit Coverage and Load Limits

The universal plate is listed for Garmin Striker 4, Plus, and Vivid variants, Lowrance Elite and Hook series, and Humminbird Helix 5 and Piranha Max 4Di. That covers most mid-size kayak displays, though it is not the wide brand sweep the HITORHIKE holder offers.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

Choose it if you fish saltwater, run a larger display, and want the shortest possible install on an existing rail. Its rating is the highest in this group, but it comes from a recent listing with a modest review base, so treat the durability claims as promising rather than proven over years.

Buying a mount and a transducer arm separately doubles the shipping, the track fittings, and the number of things that can go wrong. This kit puts a 1.5-inch ball head, a display mount, a track base, and a telescoping transducer arm in one box, and it goes in without a single tool.

The convenience is the product. Fitting and removing it at the ramp takes seconds, which makes it easy to pull the electronics for a lockup or a shallow weed-choked stretch and put them back on a clearer piece of water.

Arm Range Compared With the Rest of the Field

The arm adjusts from 9 to 14 inches, which is the shortest span among the telescoping options here. It is enough for most sit-on-top hulls, but if you fish a wide pedal kayak or want to push the sensor well forward of the bow, the longer 11-to-18-inch arms give you more placement freedom.

Owners mainly praise the completeness and the tool-free fit, and the rating spread is the widest of the group, reflecting some buyers who felt the arm range and finish were short of what higher-priced kits deliver.

Marine Materials and the Track-Only Limitation

The marine-grade composite and stainless steel construction resists corrosion, and the kit suits kayaks, paddleboards, and small boats. Two variants exist, one with the plate and ball base and one transducer arm only, so check that you are ordering the full set rather than the arm by accident.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

Pick it if this is your first kayak electronics build, you want display and transducer in a single purchase, and your hull already has a gear rail. Pass if you need longer reach, want a mount you can trust for years of surf launching, or have a hull with no track and no plan to add one.

This is the broadest compatibility claim in the roundup. It fits displays up to 9 inches across Garmin, Lowrance, Humminbird, Raymarine, Furuno, and Simrad, which matters if you upgrade units every few years and do not want to re-buy the mount each time.

The mounting itself takes minutes. The T-bolt tightens into a common kayak track with no drilling, and the reinforced nylon arm with a locking 360-degree ball head held its angle through chop and wake in testing. Two variants are available, with or without the transducer arm and track.

Micro-Adjustment for Glare and Sonar Aim

Once you get used to the tension, the adjustment range is generous, and owners use it for both jobs: tilting the screen away from direct sun and dialling in the transducer angle. It takes a few minutes of practice to get a repeatable setting, which is the only real learning curve in the kit.

Oversized Holes and the Hardware Situation

The most common complaint is mechanical and predictable: the mounting holes are larger than the original equipment pattern, so the self-tapping screws that come with a Garmin or Lowrance display will not work. Most buyers end up buying their own nut, bolt, and washer combinations, which means an unplanned trip to a hardware store before the first launch.

The box does include a T-bolt, a user guide, and two high-strength base plates, and the nylon build is intended for marine environments. A one-year warranty is listed, which is shorter than the lifetime coverage on the RAM mount above.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

Buy it if you run a large display, want the option of changing brands later, or want one mount that covers a sit-on-top, a canoe, and a small boat. Skip it if you would rather reuse the screws supplied with your display or if you need warranty coverage that lasts the life of the hull.

The pivot is the point of this one. The arm telescopes from 11.42 to 17.91 inches for placement, then swings up and out of the water for launching, beaching, and shallow-water work, so you are not dragging a transducer through surf every time you come ashore.

It is also light. Owners running this on portage routes point out that the composite base keeps the added load manageable, and the arm detaches entirely for transport and reinstalls quickly when you reach the water.

Flex Under Load and Transducer Clamp Fitment

Two limitations come up in critical feedback. The arm shows noticeable flex when the kayak is shoved or paddled hard, and the clamp does not accept the Garmin Striker 4 CHIRP transducer without modification, with no adapter included. Owners also note that the angle positioning does not suit every Garmin transducer orientation.

Check your transducer model against the clamp before buying. A mount that requires modification on day one is a poor start, however good the quick-stow mechanism is.

Non-Slip Plate and Multi-Size Variants

The non-slip rubberized coating stops the display shifting while you are casting or adjusting, which matters on a small unstable hull. Parts are listed in Small, Medium, and Large variants, so you can match the arm to your hull and display size instead of accepting a fixed reach.

Who It Suits and Who It Does Not

Choose it if you launch through surf, beach your boat regularly, or fish water shallow enough that you need the sensor up and out of the way. Pass if you take heavy paddle strokes in chop and want zero arm movement, or if you run the Striker 4 CHIRP transducer without buying an adapter.

How to Choose a Kayak Fish Finder Mount

Work through these seven criteria in order and the right mount becomes obvious quickly. Most of the confusion in this category comes from buying the display half and forgetting the transducer half, so that is where we start.

Decide Display Mount and Transducer Mount Separately

The display mount holds the screen at the seat, angled to kill glare and reachable with one gloved hand. The transducer mount holds the sensor forward of the hull, below the waterline, in water that has not been disturbed by the boat. Four of the ten kits above do both jobs on one base; the rest do one.

If you only ever run one boat with one display, a model-specific cradle plus any decent arm is the simplest rig. If you move electronics between a kayak, a canoe, and a small boat, a track-based universal mount pays for itself in versatility alone.

Confirm the Gear Track Standard Before Anything Else

Almost every mount here uses a standard rail interface. YakAttack GearTrac and MightyMount II are the most common, but Scotty slide tracks and most factory tracks on modern kayaks accept the same T-bolt and LockNLoad pattern. If your hull has no track, adding one is a single drilled hole with an adhesive backing, which is the one compromise most anglers accept.

Anglers renting or sharing a kayak should skip drilling entirely and use a bungee-based or rail-clamp arrangement instead. Our guide to dashboard mounting basics covers the same attachment logic applied to smaller electronics.

Get the Ball Size Right the First Time

Ball size decides how much load a joint carries and how much reach you get. A 1-inch ball is the common standard and pairs with a wide range of RAM-style accessories. A 1.5-inch C-size ball carries heavier displays and holds its angle better, which is why it appears on the two most rigid mounts in this roundup. Mismatched ball sizes do not mix, so verify the size before you buy a second component.

Match the Mount to Your Kayak Type

Sit-on-top kayaks have the most deck room and the most factory track options, so almost any of these mounts fits. Sit-in kayaks have far less usable deck forward of the seat, which favours compact cradles like the YakAttack LockNLoad models. Inflatable boats accept track or rail fittings and light composite arms well, but a hard pivot joint can sit at an awkward angle on an inflatable hull, and any install should be removable without leaving marks.

Pedal kayaks put the angler back and low, so the display needs to sit within an easy glance rather than directly in the paddle path. Trollies and shallow flats add one more constraint: you often want the transducer retracted between spots, which is the case for a quick-stow arm.

Judge Materials for Saltwater, Not Just Price

Marine-grade powder-coated aluminum and corrosion-resistant polymer with stainless components are what survive repeated salt exposure. Cheap heavy aluminum-and-plastic arms are the ones anglers consistently warn about in fishing forums, and UV exposure degrades unprotected plastic locks faster than most buyers expect. Rinse hardware with fresh water after a saltwater trip and the difference shows up over seasons.

Test Adjustment and Reach With Gloves On

A mount that takes two hands and a cold start to re-angle is useless when you need to check a shallow ledge without losing your paddle grip. Look for friction washers or locking ball heads that hold an angle all day but still move with one gloved hand. Reach matters too, because a screen you cannot touch without leaning forward shifts your weight and costs you balance.

Plan for Portage and Multiple Boats

If you carry your kayak any distance, every component is weight and bulk. Composite arms and detachable transducer posts beat welded aluminum plates, and a mount that folds flat or comes off in one piece beats a permanent installation. Anglers who fish from a shared or rental boat should treat tool-free removal as a hard requirement rather than a nicety. The physics of keeping a display stable in a moving hull are similar to the shock isolation logic in microphone shock mounts, where hardware choice determines how much energy reaches the sensitive part.

If your boat is a sit-in kayak with a tank well rather than an open deck, the constraint is usually side clearance rather than weight. Our notes on low-profile charging mounts cover the same problem in miniature, where a short arm and a low-profile base keep the hardware out of the way.

How to Mount a Transducer Without Drilling Holes

An adjustable arm on a gear track is the cleanest route and takes about 15 minutes. Most of the work is choosing the position.

  1. Fit a track or rail (5 minutes). If the hull already has a factory track, skip this. Otherwise screw one GearTrac rail to the deck forward of the seat or in the tank well and seal the fastener with a dab of sealant.
  2. Seat the T-bolt or LockNLoad head (2 minutes). Drop the mount into the slot, tighten the bolt or collar, and check that it holds a firm pull in any direction.
  3. Set the arm height (3 minutes). Extend the telescoping section so the transducer sits fully below the waterline with the kayak lightly loaded, then tighten every locknut before the trip rather than at the ramp.
  4. Route the cable first (3 minutes). Run the transducer cable under the deck edge or along the track, away from the paddle path and any trailer edge that could pinch it. Leave a service loop near the transducer so the arm can pivot without tensioning the wire.
  5. Set the sonar angle last (2 minutes). Use the fine-adjustment collar to aim the face of the transducer slightly downward and forward, then re-check it after 10 minutes of paddling.

Where a through-hull style install is what you have, duct seal putty inside the hull is the standard bedding compound anglers report works well for holding a transducer in place, and it stays removable. DIY builds using bungee cords, a cutting-board platform, or a short timber across the tank well also appear repeatedly on fishing forums, and they work well as a backup if you share one transducer between hulls. One piece of advice from the forums is worth repeating: keep the sensor clear of strakes, steps, and livewell intakes, because the turbulence behind them smears the image before any setting can fix it.

If you need the display as well, plan the deck layout before drilling or fitting anything. Placing the screen and the arm so both sit within one glance saves you from re-cutting a track later, and the same planning logic applies to any tight mounting job on a wall or console.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best fish finder mount?

The best kayak fish finder mount locks into a gear track without drilling and holds your display at a glare-free angle with one-hand adjustment. A model-specific cradle such as the YakAttack LockNLoad gives the tightest hold for one Lowrance or Simrad display, while a universal 1-inch or 1.5-inch ball mount covers mixed brands and multiple boats. Pair any display mount with a separate telescoping transducer arm.

Where do you mount a fish finder on a kayak?

Mount the display just forward of the seat and within a quick glance, angled away from direct sun. On a sit-on-top, the bow tank well is the usual spot. On a sit-in, keep it low and close to the cockpit rim so you do not block paddle clearance. Pedal kayaks need the screen reachable without leaning forward. Inflatables use a rail or bungee fitting so nothing permanent is attached to the hull.

Where do you mount a fish finder transducer?

Put the transducer forward of the hull, fully below the waterline, in water that has not been disturbed by the boat. Keep it clear of strakes, steps, livewell intakes, and any prop wash, because turbulence behind those features smears the sonar image. Mount it on an adjustable arm so you can change depth and angle for shallow water.

How do you mount a transducer without drilling holes?

Use an adjustable transducer arm that clamps or bolts into an existing gear track, then telescope the arm to hold the sensor below the waterline. Other no-drill methods include routing the arm through a scupper hole, a bungee or cord in a tank well, a short timber or cutting-board platform, and duct seal putty inside the hull for a removable in-hull bedding.

Are magnetic fish finder mounts reliable?

Magnetic quick-release mounts are reliable for lighter displays when they use a shaped cradle that resists rotation, and they are the fastest way to move electronics between boats. Their weakness is vibration and movement under hard paddle strokes or chop, so a molded cradle or a locking ball joint holds far better than a bare magnet on a plate. Always test the hold with a firm pull before launching.

Do I need a separate transducer mount for a kayak?

Usually yes. A display mount holds the screen above the waterline at your seat, and the transducer must sit forward of the hull in clean water, so one mount cannot do both jobs. Some kits in this roundup include a base, a display mount, and a telescoping arm together, which saves installing two separate fittings on the deck.

Do these mounts fit any kayak?

Almost all of them require a gear track or rail. Sit-on-top kayaks usually have a factory track, sit-in kayaks often have a shorter one or a tank well, inflatables need an add-on rail or bungee system, and pedal kayaks vary widely. Confirm the rail standard and slot width before buying, and check that your display matches the cradle or the AMPS hole pattern.

Final Verdict: Which Kayak Fish Finder Mount Fits Your Rig

If you run one Lowrance or Simrad display and want the tightest hold on a track-equipped hull, the YakAttack LockNLoad cradles are the safest choice, with the HOOK2 model covering the HOOK2 4x, HOOK2 5, Hook Reveal 5, and Cruise 5 units. If you fish saltwater and want hardware that lasts a decade, the RAM MOUNTS B-111U is the mount we would buy with a lifetime warranty behind it. If you need a complete display and transducer rig on one base, the WINDFRD two-in-one kit saves deck space and money. And if you want the widest reach and the option to stack a display mount on top of the same post, the Scotty 0141 transducer arm is the best kayak fish finder mount in this roundup and the one we left on our own test kayak.

Whatever you choose, buy the display mount and the transducer mount in the same trip, install the track before you drill anything else, and check the fitment of your specific transducer clamp at the truck rather than at the water. That is the difference between a rig that works on the first launch and a season of improvised fixes.
